It’s important to know that there are no legal standards to define a “good engine,” so there’s no way to know exactly what you’re buying when you deal with a seller. There are many individuals and disreputable companies advertising cheap engines for sale who will take an engine out of a wrecked vehicle, and then sell it as a good engine. Some will use low-quality parts to replace only the ones that have obviously gone bad, and then sell the engine. Still others have no problem changing the mileage on the used engines they sell.
